In the Middle Ages, the marriage between a son and a daughter of two lords constituted an alliance to reinforce the power of two families on a region and allowed to preserve a lineage. Furthermore, the dowry changed the wife into an object with a precious marketable value. Today, the arranged marriage seals a pact to conserve, preserve and transmit the customs and values that bind a community.
Nowadays the arranged marriage is still practised, but is it compatible with love? The respect for tradition and religion is important but is the reason sufficient to abandon the happiness of the future life?

These days, arranged marriages are practised in the countries which are less developed and very believing like in India. In these countries, the religion is very important. For many of them, not to respect religion is a sacrilege. As for the future bride and bridegroom, they believe that they are beginning a new adventure or that they’ve found a solution not to be alone.
However, the happiness that these reasons will give them will be nothing compared to the sadness of their marriage. Indeed, the chances that the marriage provokes love are weak because the parents choose the future bridegroom or the future bride according to her or his caste and religion but on no account according to his character, his attitude… The future bride and her husband will be like chalk and cheese. What is more, they will not agree and their children will be unhappy.

In my view, arranged marriage isn’t compatible with love. It must be recognized that there are exceptions but they are rare. As regards the arranged marriage, I don’t think that it is a happy situation.
